This brilliantly acted, award winning biopic of Johnny Cash offers a moving picture of his passionate relationship with June Carter, as well as an exhilarating portrait of the country music scene in the 1950s and 1960s . And with its high production values and A-list stars Joaquin Phoenix and Reese Witherspoon it should do. But why is it that some musicians get to have their life stories captured with class (and high budgets), like this, and others get relegated to the sea of TV movie hell?
Who knows, Johnny and June got lucky it seems. Nevertheless, how many other biopics are there still waiting to be made? Whose biopic would you most like to see? I, personally, am waiting patiently for the story of that other country music legend, Dolly Parton (see my profile for more on that). Interestingly, it was Johnny Cash who introduced the “little girl from East Tennessee” to the Grand Ole Opry audience when she stood on that infamous Nashville stage for the first time as a teenager.
