Who is the best James Bond of all?
Do you believe that Sean Connery has no contenders? Or do you think Daniel Craig has already surpassed the original 007? Perhaps you judge that George Lazenby is underrated for his performance in On Her Majesty’s Secret Service? Do you have a soft spot for Roger Moore’s tongue-in-cheek innuendo? Are you a die-hard fan of the Celtic charm of Pierce Brosnan? Or do you feel that Timothy Dalton’s dourness captured the character best?
Do let us know what you think. Even if you are someone who loathes the whole Bond business, or a smart alec who reckons David Niven’s Sir James Bond in 1967′s unofficial Casino Royale is best, we’d love to hear your views.

It’s Sean of course! Why are you even asking?
I grew up with Roger Moore on my TV, Roger’s mum lived in the same village as my own. Favoritism I guess …. Sean Connery – a great actor, but should really keep to playing roles requiring a Scottish accent !
I think Roger Moore is the best one as well. The first Bond movie I ever watched starred Roger and I used to think he was very handsome! : ) I do like old Sean too but it’s Roger who does it for me!
Well it’s obvious! It has to be Connery, with Craig, maybe, just maybe, tying with Connery, though it’s too early to say as he’s only made two films and I’ve yet to see Quantum of Solace. But Craig does have that ruthlessness of the original written character. I’ll watch Bond films with Brosnan as well. So it’s Connery/Craig, Bronson. Who were the others…?
Dalton, Craig, Connery, Brosnan, Lazenby, Moore.
A lot of it is to do with the scripts.
Before Craig Dalton was the only Bond to feel on the brink of control.
Craig’s yer man. A hard nut for hard times. He’s so hard he makes Sean Connery look like Julian Clary.
Brosnan – it’s criminal he was ousted in favour of Mr Serious Craig…
I would go for Sean but it could be an age thing.
It was always Sean for me until the wonderful Daniel Craig came along and completely blew me away.
Go Craig!
I realise that this is the ultimate Bond heresy, but as a youngster growing up in the Connery/Moore eras I preferred the latter due to the comic situations he found himself in (think Jaws etc) and amusing one liners – I hasten to add that Moore’s antics as Bond (and that of his villains) would make me cringe nowadays, but as a teen it was Roger all the way for me!
As an “adult”, I’m afraid the whole Bond (and Bourne) franchise leaves me cold.
Having seen way too many shots of Roger Moore breathing in, i’m going for George Lazenby, because in real life he was nails!
Well it has to be the one the only Roger Moore and the reason is simple: he was everything that Bond should have been. The best of British with a light comedy touch.
Thinking of it, poll after poll says Connery, but when you ask most people they say Moore every time!! The guy was born to play Bond and even today if he was young enough he would still get the role. I’m sure it was Fleming himself who wanted Moore, so if it was the case that the guy that came up with Bond wanted Moore does it not make him the number one???
Pierce Brosnan gets my vote as the top Bond. Daniel Craig does a good job too, but Casino Royale was a little dark and serious for my liking.
I grew up watching Pierce Brosnan’s Bond so he is my pick. Sean Connery a close second. Daniel Craig’s is too dark and too much like a bad Bourne clone.
Only Bob Holness went on to host a popular student quiz show after his stint as Bond on South African radio. Sean Connery may have dealt with Goldfinger, but could he have done a Gold Run? They all traded quips with Q, but who else could offer a P so consummately?
I’m going to go with Daniel Craig. I like the darker edge he brings to the character. Although Connery, obviously, is a very close second…
This is a hard question to answer!
My current favourite is Daniel Craig – but that’s probably because he’s, well, current……
But Sean Connery is also up there – in my mind, he’s the original, mould-stamping Bond.
And, have to say, I was also wow’d by Pierce Brosnan in his first appearance as Bond in Goldeneye.
So, like Aston Martin, I’ve got 3 on my list – Craig, Connery & Brosnan.
Roger Moore is head and shoulders the best Bond there has ever been. None of the others gets close.
Roger, is that you? Good choice of pseudonym, but a little obvious..
Pierce Brosnan – for reasons that have very little to do with his acting ability…
Daniel Craig – closest to the novel Bond – cruel blue eyes that both attract and repel and looks like he could kill you at the drop of a hat.
who’s the best bond? like asking who’s the greatest prime minister? different bonds for different times. craig is great. love connery in first three bonds, dr no, from russia with love and goldfinger. but recently watched live and let die and thought it was fantastic. who’s the best bond. depends on my mood.
okay, sean connery has it, he set the tone, but lazenby was good so i say he comes in second..everyone else sucked
Moore is the best. He’s witty, charming, and (like his times, also my youth) does not take himself too seriously.
Connery is almost as good. Actually that’s really a matter of taste.
Dalton and Lazenby just didn’t have it.
Brosnan was very good, but the violence was becoming a bit too real.
Craig may come the closest to Fleming’s book-Bond, but fascism doesn’t go over well on the screen.
Niven would have wiped all of them if he was allowed to play it for real.
Connery, Craig, Dalton, and Brosnan were/are all good in different ways.
Lazenby was underrated.
Moore was too old and his portrayal of Bond was too campy to suit me.
