The famous legend about this Oscar-winning film is that Frank Sinatra got his big movie role as Private Maggio because of his alleged Mafia connections, and that this was the inspiration for the famous horse head scene in The Godfather. (If you’re looking for Christmas present ideas, click here.)
This story has, however, been dismissed on several occasions since by those involved in the film. In his biography Sinatra in Hollywood, published in the US this month, Tom Santopietro sheds further light on the myth, as reported here. Hopefully the book will become available in the UK soon.
