Couch Potato Pickings – Swingers

On E4 tonight at 10.30pm

In tonight’s movie, Mike (John Favreau) is still brooding after his break-up with his long-time girlfriend. His friends, who include Trent (Vince Vaughn), decide to show him a good time to cheer him up and go looking for good times and girls in the hotspots of Los Angeles.

In case you’re wondering about its title, no, this film is not about partner swapping. There was a huge swing thing going on in the 1990s. Maybe you remember it.

Personally, I have no recollection of this musical trend whatsoever because I was no doubt too busy either “finding myself” or struggling through a string of disastrous relationships. I certainly bored my friends stupid at this time with my repetitive tales of broken-hearted woe just like John Favreau’s character Mike in this film. Mind you it does all even out  – I’ve had enough friends do the same to me. That’s why this film is so funny – it’s so familiar.

And while I never had a disaster as bad as this, I definitely had my share of awkward run-ins with answer machines myself in those days.
