A brand, spanking new CGI animated adventure starring a plucky little mouse with unfeasibly large ears and a sense of chivalry to match, The Tale of Despereaux benefits from a to-die-for voice cast. Sigourney Weaver supplies some delightfully wry narration, Matthew Broderick is Despereaux, the heroic little mouse that could, Harry Potter star Emma Watson is Princess Pea —the somewhat reluctant object of Despereaux’s heroic rescue bid — and Dustin Hoffman is his self-destructive rat pal Roscuro (a bit of casting that echoes rather cleverly Hoffman’s Oscar-nominated turn as vagrant ‘Ratso’ Rizzo in Midnight Cowboy we think). And that’s just the main stars, you can also listen out for Kevin Kline, Stanley Tucci, William H Macy and British comedy talents Robbie Coltrane and Tracey Ullman. To celebrate the cinema release of this beguiling mouse-keteer’s tale on 19th December, we have a bonanza of booty to be won here on Movie Talk.
