Frost/Nixon - Michael Sheen as David Frost and Frank Langella as Richard Nixon

Ron Howard has skilfully opened out Peter Morgan’s hit play based on the historic 1977 TV interview by British TV personality David Frost (played by Michael Sheen) and disgraced former US president Richard Nixon (Frank Langella), but he’s kept the intimacy of the stage drama, and may even have intensified it. Even when you know the outcome – Frost famously wrung an apology out of Nixon for the Watergate scandal that had sunk his presidency three years earlier -  it’s still enthralling to watch the pair jockeying for the upper hand as their encounter unfolds. (General release from 23rd January)
