Milk - Sean Penn as Harvey Milk

Sean Penn is in with a good shout at winning an Oscar for his impressive performance as Harvey Milk, the first openly gay man to be elected to major public office in America. Gus Van Sant‘s moving biopic shows how Milk used a mix of guile and charm to win election to San Francisco’s city council, the Board of Supervisors, in 1977 only to be assassinated a year later by a troubled fellow supervisor. (General release from 23rd January)

This film had me bawling even more than when I went to see Brokeback Mountain. After seeing this I’ve vowed never to miss another Gay Pride march again.
