Zut alors! Steve Martin plumbs new depths of mirthlessness in this woeful sequel – the latest shot at squeezing box-office cash from the increasingly devalued Pink Panther brand. Martin’s second go at filling Peter Sellers‘ shoes as bungling Inspector Jacques Clouseau sees the inept detective assigned to an international dream team of top cops investigating a string of thefts. Of course, he leaves havoc in his wake. But the farcical goings on aren’t funny and Martin’s dream team of co-stars – including Jean Reno, John Cleese, Andy Garcia, Alfred Molina and Bollywood superstar Aishwarya Rai Bachchan – are either miscast or wasted. They probablyshouldn’t have re-made the Pink Panther series. The world of cinema has changed so greatly since, that any remake would feel hollow, no matter how good the actor playing Clouseau is. Honestly, the later movies with Sellers really weren’t that good; but, they are miles better than the Steve Martin series.
