Couch Potato Pickings | Bride of Chucky

Showing on ITV4 tonight at 10pm

Have they made too many Chucky films? What do you think?

In my opinion, the formula might have run dry had they made a fourth serious horror version, but by taking a self-mocking diversion with this film tonight (and its sequel Seed of Chucky) the makers breathed a new inspired life into the franchise.

In fact, I can take or leave the Child’s Play trilogy, but give me either of the spoof versions and I’m smiling from ear to ear. This may sound weird but I have a soft spot for Chucky and his bride Tiffany in these cheeky comic horror flicks.

And it seems I’m not alone. Judging by the amount of tongue-in-cheek homages to the demon duo on You Tube, this cut-throat couple have won the hearts of many.

My favourite is this lovingly crafted video of Chuck and Tiff doing Sandy and Danny in Grease.

But there are loads of others. Tiffany and Chucky get to lip sync to a diverse variety of songs, including versions of classic tracks Crazy and Tainted Love, while the BeegeesKaty Perry and  The Sugababes (their song Hole in the Head takes on a rather literal meaning) are just some of the many artists fans have creatively paired with the diminutive couple to celebrate their twisted take on true love.

And it seems that someone has even (rather unfortunately in my opinion) acknowledged that the horror duo, being small but deadly, require small but deadly vocals to do them justice and has used the excrutiatingly shrill Alvin and the Chipmunks and their rendition of Daniel Powter’s Bad Day for their tribute to the dolls. Eek.

Hmm, talk about a dolly obsession…

One Chucky film is a Chucky film too much if you ask me. Trash.

It may be trash but it’s tongue-in-cheek trash, and that’s loads of fun.
