Che Guevara: heroic guerrilla fighter, charismatic politician and revolutionary martyr, not to mention counterculture pin-up – without a doubt, Ernesto “Che” Guevara was one of the most famous and controversial figures of the 20th Century. Now, acclaimed filmmaker Steven Soderbegh has explored his complex story in an epic saga that spans two films and stars Benicio Del Toro in a career-defining role that won him the best actor award at the 2008 Cannes Film Festival.
Che Part 1 tracks Che Guevara’s rise in the Cuban Revolution in the 1950s, from doctor to commander to revolutionary hero, showing the key role he played alongside Fidel Castro in the fight to overthrow the corrupt dictatorship of Fulgencio Batista.
Che Part 2 takes up Che Guevara’s story in the 1960s and depicts his move to the jungles of Bolivia, bent on fomenting another revolution but heading instead to his tragic demise.
