I find if I mention the Doris Day film Calamity Jane to most people, they have a tendencey to burst into song with this catchy slap-a-my-thigh tomboy ditty. It’s clearly the most popular.
However, did you know that another song from the film, Secret Love, is one of the all-time gay anthems?
In the 1950s, this song was a perfect expression of the love that dare not speak its name, and even today it’s held in esteem as a classic ‘coming out’ anthem.
