Just when you thought Kirk, Spock and the rest of the starship crew had been pensioned off for good, the Star Trek franchise gets an action-packed, adrenaline-pumping rebirth with this brand new adventure set aboard the newly commissioned USS Enterprise.
Chris Pine reinvents William Shatner’s portly James T Kirk as a lean, mean and moody motorbike riding rebel who gets drafted into service aboard the revolutionary new starship with fellow recruits: Karl Urban’s McCoy, Zachary Quinto’s Spock and Zoe Saldana’s Uhuru. Eric Bana goes mad with the face putty as Romulan villain Nero, Simon Pegg pops up as Scotty and, to keep traditional Trekkies happy, there’s even a mind-boggling cameo from original Spock Leonard Nimoy.
Lost creator JJ Abrams takes the helm and proves that the old sci-fi dog still has lots of new tricks in it – and all of them conjured at warp speed. Prequels don’t come much bigger or better (or buff) than this.
To celebrate the film’s DVD release on 16th November, the nice folks at Paramount Home Entertainment have given us five copies to give away to five lucky winners. To be in with a chance to win, all you have to do is boldly go and answer the following question correctly:
What does Captain James T. Kirk’s middle initial stand for:
a) Trekkie
b) Tiberius
c) Teapot
Send your answer, clearly marked Star Trek DVD Competition in the subject line, to movietalk@ipcmedia.com. The closing date for entries is Thursday 3 December 2009.
