Couch Potato Pickings | De-Lovely – they just don’t write songs like this any more

De-Lovely,Kevin Kline

In the space of two days I’ve had two people say to me ‘I love Cole Porter. They just don’t write songs like that anymore.’ Weird. Spooky. Random. However, I totally agree.

And now, this foot-tapping musical biopic about the great Cole Porter appears on telly. Even more spooky. It must be a sign of some sort.

Kevin Kline stars as Porter. And what’s great about the movie, besides the music, is that it features performances by some great contemporary performers. Robbie Williams, Alanis Morissette, John Barrowman, Sheryl Crow, Mick Hucknall, Diana Krall, Lemar, Elvis Costello, and Natalie Cole are just some of its many singing stars. It also stars the beautiful Ashley Judd as Porter’s wife and muse, Linda.

Which is your favourite Cole Porter song? Mine is Night and Day.

If I had to pick, I’d say my favorite is ‘So In Love’. But it’s hard to pick just one! I’ve always loved Cole Porter’s music. Own DVDs of both ‘Night and Day’ (with Cary Grant) and ‘De-lovely’ (with the brilliant Kevin Kline). I think De-lovely has become one of my very favorite movies!

Thanks for posting this…can I have some more, please. :-)
