Japanese comic-book and TV series hero Astro Boy gets a CGI reboot in this lively sci-fi comedy adventure. The movie isn’t in the Pixar league, but the energetic action will keep kids diverted while grown-ups will have fun working out who’s who in the eclectic voice cast. The story’s eco message should win approval too.

In futuristic Metro City, grief-stricken scientist Dr Tenma (voiced by Nicolas Cage) creates a robot boy after his son Toby (Freddie Highmore) is killed. Programmed with Toby’s memories, Astro Boy has super powers, including the ability to fly. But war-mongering leader President Stone (Donald Sutherland) comes after Astro, prompting him to seek refuge with a gang of scavenging children who think he is a real boy…
