Couch Potato’s Tuesday Teaser: What was Big’s big achievement?

Starring Tom Hanks, and directed by Penny Marshall, 1980s smash hit Big is of course the story of a 12-year-old boy who finds himself transformed into a 30-year-old man after asking a carnival wishing machine to change him into a grown-up.

When the film came out in cinemas back in 1988, it grossed more than $100million at the US box office. But an even bigger achievement for this movie was that it was the first film directed by a woman to become this successful.

Big is showing on Film4 tonight – Tuesday 26th June – at 6.55pm
