Who on earth is the FBI mole in day seven of 24?

 24 montage version 1

We’re loving the new series of 24 – it’s great to have Jack back in action, especially now he’s shed that ridiculous mac he was wearing for the first few episodes.

We were initially quite upset about the disbandment of CTU, but we can see now that there really was no need for it to be running alongside the FBI since it seems they operate in exactly the same way anyway – lots of people sitting around at their terminals staring at screens full of incomprehensible computer code, maps and graph-producing software (and not a sniff of Facebook, solitaire or Tesco Online).

They’re equally adept at hushed conversations by the filing cabinet, ringing one another even though they sit 3 feet apart, and exchanging meaningful looks every 3 minutes. All that’s different is the ringtones, the standard issue FBI jackets and the choice of beige office walls over CTU’s urban concrete/glass basement chic.

The other thing both departments have in common? The presence of a mole. No top secret organisation is complete without one! We’ve been thinking about which of the agents may be the guilty party – here’s what we’ve come up with so far:

JANIS GOLD (Janeane Garofalo) – Hmmm. Highly unlikely – there’s no way Janis could make a getaway at speed in that frumpy stride-limiting skirt she’s wearing… unless it’s one of those velcro ouftits like The Chippendales used to wear that can be torn off in seconds to reveal some natty pedal pushers. Odds? 50/1.

RENEE WALKER (Annie Wersching) – Renee (who’d be called Freckles if Lost’s Kate Austin hadn’t snagged the title already)  – also highly unlikely. Unless she’s carrying out some sort of triple-quadruple-cross, and is so determined not to blow her cover that she will even allow herself to be buried alive at a deserted construction site. Mind you, Nina was pretty crazy… Odds? 30/1.

LARRY MOSS (Jeffrey Nordling) – Almost too obvious, with his ability to have secret phone conversations behind closed doors, his high-level access to top-secret info, his constant shifty glances at people as he takes calls on his mobile, and the fact he played the incredibly dodgy Brent in Courteney Cox drama Dirt. Odds 2/1.

SEAN HILLINGER (Rhys Coiro) – Hmmm… this guy looks about as slippery as a wet fish covered in vaseline, and he already has a proven track record of sneaking around behind closed doors, tippy-tapping on hidden computers to gain access to secret flight records. Plus he’s cheating on his wife. BAD GUY! BAD GUY! Then again, he may die unexpectedly in a cyanide attack on the office, his dying words ‘save yourself, Janis, you’re the only one I ever loved….’ Odds 3/1.

ERIKA NO NAME (Ever Carradine) – Erika doesn’t need a surname. All you need to know about her is that she’s sleeping with Sean. Using his top technical skills to get to secret information? The ultimate femme fatale? Or just a needless red herring – blonde herring, in this case… 15/1.

KIM BAUER (Elisha Cuthbert) – The episode 14 shock twist guest star? Anyone who can escape while being chased by a cougar around the hills of Hollywood (season two, for those of you who’ve blocked it out of your memory) is certainly sneaky enough to gain access to the FBI’s files and pass them on to the highest-paying villain. And come on, wouldn’t it be great to have wee Kimmy back? 100/1.

AN ACTUAL MOLE – Only possible if the FBI manufacture their standard issue jackets in mole-sized dimensions. 99/1.
