It’s two years since Five showed the first series of Big Love and now, at long last, it has been released on DVD.
The quirky HBO drama, about a fundamentalist middle-America Mormon family that practices polygamy, was a bit of a slow-burner but turned out to be one of the channel’s most enjoyable and intriguing US imports, and featured wonderful performances from Bill Paxton as Bill Henrickson and Chloë Sevigny, Jeanne Tripplehorn, Ginnifer Goodwin as his trio of wives.
Sadly, while a second series has since aired in the States to great critical acclaim, no UK channel has yet seen fit to broadcast it here. Fingers crossed, BBC4 or FX, home to edgy hidden US treasures such as The Wire and Breaking Bad, might step into the breach…
Anyway, for those of you who missed the first series, or indeed saw it the first time around but fancy watching it all over again, we highly recommend you avail yourself of the DVD box-set that’s just gone on sale. It features all 12 episodes from the first series, plus a couple of commentaries.
We have three copies, courtesy of those nice people at HBO Video, to give away. To be in with a chance of winning, simply answer the following question:
Q. The theme song to Big Love, God Only Knows, is performed by which band?
Send your answer, clearly marked Big Love DVD Competition in the subject line, to tvspy@ipcmedia.com. The closing date for entries is Thursday 23 October 2008.
