Calling all fans of Desperate Housewives/Firefly/Dr. Horrible star Nathan Fillion – he’s about to return to US telly screens in new crime drama Castle. Nathan plays dashing murder mystery writer Richard Castle (hence the title) who’s called in by the Feds after some no-good killer begins butchering people in the style of the crimes featured in his novels.
Naturally, the hard-partying and reckless Castle immediately comes into conflict with straight-laced FBI agent Kate Becket (Stana Katic from comic-book flick The Spirit), but the pair end up becoming a crime-fighting twosome anyway. As well as sparring with Becket, Castle also has trouble at home courtesy of his mum, daughter and ex-wife (who just happens to be his agent). Oh, and when not suffering with writer’s block, he enjoys games of poker with fellow scribes James Pattinson and Stephen King.
From what we’ve seen and heard, Castle is not entirely dissimilar to Bones, with Fillion and Katic enjoying the same chemistry as David Boreanaz and Emily Deschanel. Which can only be a good thing. But do we really need another crime procedural drama what with The Mentallist and Lie to Me coming to UK TV soon? The cocksure charisma of Nathan Fillion certainly looks set to make this Moonlighting-esque series infinately watchable.

Just read your post. Which UK channel has picked up the broadcasting rights.
Hi Andy – at the moment, Castle hasn’t been picked up by any one in the UK. But now a second season has been confirmed, we’re hopeful it will show up somewhere. It’d be perfect on ITV3 or Hallmark!
no confirmation then?
