The staff are still reeling from the death of Pratt, but there’s another shock in store as new chief Dr Cate Banfield arrives. Banfield, played by Angela Bassett, is a tough cookie, no doubt egged on by this episode’s guest director, Paul McCrane, who played the most acerbic doc ever to grace the ER, Rocket Romano. As if all that wasn’t bad enough, some of the medics are then exposed to what is probably a toxic substance, and the department has to go into lockdown.
9pm, My Name Is Earl, E4
A visit to his parents’ house brings back some painful memories for Earl as he remembers a caustic comment to his neighbours which made them up sticks and move to the next county. He tracks the couple down, but discovers there was a much more shocking reason for them leaving and all hell breaks loose. Worth it for the bit where Earl sings ‘Eye of the Tiger’ to his dad!

Kitty and Robert’s plan to become adoptive parents hits a snag when they have to invite the social worker to a big family dinner to give an insight into what the Walkers are like. You just know that’s not going to end well, especially as everyone has had a sneak preview of Kitty’s book and taken major offence to how she has portrayed them all.
