Generation Kill Jeep

9pm, Generation Kill, FX
FX have made a late amendment to their schedule tonight, and are giving you another chance to catch the first episode of this new war drama from the makers of The Wire. Following the exploits of a group of soldiers stationed in Iraq, it’s as gritty as they come (and that’s not just because of all the desert sand flying around). As the troops wait for the order to invade, they bond by practising their martial arts, reading porn, and mocking letters from well-meaning schoolchildren back home. It’ll make you think twice about what our soldiers go through in far-off climes.

9pm, Gossip Girl, ITV2
Prepare yourselves for a shock as the identity of Lord Marcus’s mother is revealed. Well, maybe not – depends on how good you are at spotting all the subtle clues the programme makers have been leaving lying around. Blair is excited to be dating royalty and plans to become a royal herself, but scheming Chuck has other plans for her, and Serena and Dan agree to keep their recent meetings a secret from their friends and family.

10.20pm, Family Guy, FX
If you’re in need of some light relief after Generation Kill, keep your telly on FX for a double bill of Family Guy. First up, Brian appears on TV dating show The Bachelorette, but ends up stalking the show’s star, while Chris is driven to crime by a nasty case of acne. In the second episode, Stewie falls in love with his new babysitter and Peter tries to sell Meg to clear a massive bill at the pharmacy. Just what the doctor ordered.
