This weekend’s big US dramas

PUSHING DAISIES, SERIES TWO, EMERSON AND NED

Fri, 9pm, NCIS, Five
The team’s called to try to stop a suicidal naval officer who’s perched on the edge of a rooftop, but just as it seems they’re getting somewhere and he’s backing away from the ledge, a sniper takes him out. Bummer. Still, at least it gives them something to investigate…

Fri, 10pm, Pushing Daisies, ITV1
Ned and Emerson investigate a troupe of circus performers after a girl disappears and a mime artist is murdered, while Olive begins to settle in nicely at the convent, although the food leaves her wondering if there’s any way she can train the truffle-hunting pig to hunt for sugar. An episode chock-full of weather-beating whimsy.

Fri, 10pm, Boston Legal, Living
Denny faints in the lobby of Crane, Poole & Schmidt, and for once it’s not just for dramatic effect. The cocktail of prescription drugs he’s taking is a toxic combo, so Alan helps him take on the drug companies (did he follow the bit on the back of the box about not mixing alcohol with the tablets though? Somehow I doubt it.)

Fri, 10pm, Numb3rs, Five
The team go after a gang of men who are in the process of robbing a shipping warehouse, but a shootout leaves one of the agents dead, forcing Don back into therapy, questioning his role as a leader. He’s not the only member of the team questioning their purpose though.

Sat, 9.40pm, CSI: NY, Five
The episode starts out with an Indiana Jones theme after a respected archaeologist is found dead in an alleyway togged out in the requisite outfit, but you may end up with whiplash of a different sort by the time the episode’s through – it’s loaded with plot twists, so don’t try nipping out to make a cuppa during the forensic bits.

Sun, 9pm, Lost, Sky1
After all last week’s dizzying timeshifts, this episode focuses on Kate, who is in major panic mode when she discovers someone does know the truth about Aaron. Back on the island, the nosebleed phenomenon is spreading at an alarming rate, Locke comes up with a daring plan, and someone you thought you’d seen the last of reappears. Our lips are sealed.

Sun, 9pm, Supernatural, ITV2
Sam and Dean track down a man called Jack who is turning into a flesh-eating demon that preys on humans. I expect fellow demons leave a rather bitter taste in the mouth. Recognise Jack? He’s the baddie in 24 that Agent Walker used to try out her newly learned torture techniques. Maybe the poor chap will get a nice rom-com role soon.

Sun, 10pm, Generation Kill, FX
The potty-mouthed Bravo Company are on a reconnaissance mission checking out a local village, and are convinced there are no hostile forces there, but can only watch helplessly as a group of fellow soldiers show up and decimate the area in minutes. Still not one to watch with your granny, unless she already swears like a trooper.
